Milliken Mills Pond
The Milliken Mills Pond is 10 acres of water. People made the pond by building a dam across the Mill Brook. The deepest part of Milliken Mills Pond is 10 feet deep. The shallowest is 2 feet deep. What lives in the pond: Fish-- like Trout, and Snapping turtles, Frogs. What do People like to do in the pond: Swimming, Fishing, Canoeing.
Mill Brook
The Brook is clear and clean. It flows into Milliken Mills Pond near Old Cascade Road and then it flows out of the pond over the dam. The Milliken Mills trail goes near that part of Mill Brook. Sometimes trout leave the pond when the pond gets hot and they move to a cool spot in Mill Brook. Animal tracks sometimes show where animals come to drink from Mill Brook.
Vernal Pools
There is one small vernal pool on the animal shelter side of Milliken Woods. A vernal pool is a pool in the Spring, and in the Summer the water dries up. Fish can’t live there because they need water all the time. Some animals can live on land and water. These animals include salamanders, frogs, turtles, and toads. They come to the vernal pool to lay their eggs. And the babies grow up safely because there are no fish that can eat them. When the land dries up because there are no fish that can eat them.
